Regular bus service to Har Hazeisim is being launched on Sunday December 3rdt as part of a series of transportation improvements to Har Har Hazeisim, Mayor Nir Barkat informed the International Committee for Har Hazeisim (ICHH). The Mayor is planning to add cable car service as well as an extension of the light rail in the future as part of his master plan to improve access to the 3000-year old cemetery.

The new bus line, # 84, will run daily (M-Th) from 8:30 in the morning until 7:45 in the evening. In his announcement, the Mayor called the bus service “an important development for the thousands who visit Har Hazeisim.” The bus service, to be operated by the Egged Bus Co., will begin on Givat Hatachmoshet and will make 5 stops before ending up near the Seven Arches Hotel atop of Har Hazeisim. The busses are bullet proof.

Commenting on this important development, Mr. Abe Lubinsky, Chairman of the ICHH, said: “The new bus service is a direct result of the major upgrade in security on Har Hazeisim and is part of the new security measures on Har Hazeisim including 173 surveillance cameras, a police station, a border police platoon, and a new wall/fence fence around the Eastern sector of the historic holy Bais Hachaim.”

In working closely with the ICHH, the Mayor revealed a number of new transportation initiatives that would be undertaken in the future, including improved parking. Police officials told the ICHH that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of visitors to Har Hazeisim.
