New Desecration of Graves on Har Hazeitim Despite Heavy Police Presence

Leaders of ICPHH Urge Immediate Construction of Wall

Yerushalayim…A number of matzeivos were desecrated and garbage strewn nearby by Arab hooligans despite the heavy presence of police and Border Police in East Yerushalayim due to the recent spate of violence in the city. According to the International Committee for the Preservation of Har Hazeitim (ICPHH), the Arabs used large boulders to crack the matzeivos and then filed some of the interior with garbage. The destroyed graves were just below the chelka of Gur which had also suffered extensive desecrations only a few months ago.

The new desecrations which are believed to have taken place over Shabbos Parshas Noach point out the need for the immediate construction of a wall around the ancimage001 (2)ient holy cemetery, the ICPHH said. “With Yerushalayim under virtual siege Har Hazeitim is ringed by hundreds of police and border police and still they were able to desecrate the graves,” said Avrohom Lubinsky, founding chairman of the ICPHH. He said that the wall should be erected without delay so as to prevent any further desecrations. The area in question has many cameras and ICPHH officials were hoping that police would pursue the criminals and bring them to justice.

Security officials have vowed to protect Har Hazeitim despite being preoccupied with the new spate of terror that is currently plaguing the city and the country in general. Yet, the vandals used the absence of police in that part of the cemetery to perpetrate their desecration. Mr. Lubinsky warned that “if we do not protect the 150,000 neshomos on Har Hazeitim, they will not let us rest!”
